Done takes a stake in SIS

SIS: Done deal
BETTING magnate Fred Done has splashed out around £7.5m in taking a strategic stake in a company which supplies data and technology to betting shops.

The BetFred boss has bought a 7.5 per cent share in London-based Satellite Information Services, which also operates fixed odds betting terminals in betting shops, and broadcasting services such as live coverage and programming for the digital TV racing channel At The Races.

He said today: "I've taken a punt on them to do well. SIS faces competition from a rival, but I believe they will win the day.

"It's a personal shareholding, it's a long term investment. It shows my commitment to the racing industry and to SIS.

Reputation

"It is a company with a good reputation and I can see them expanding further into Europe in the next five years as gambling rules change.

"I don't back businesses for short term kills - I involve myself for the long term, this is a five to 10-year play for me."

Meanwhile Mr Done said he was `delighted' to see the new Wembley Stadium finally up and running.

His Betfred empire has a five-year exclusive deal with the multi-million pound stadium for betting rights and was up and running for the first time at the recent England Under-21 match.

He said: "We have had to wait, but I believe it's well worth it, it's a fantastic stadium, the best in the world.

"We operated on a test basis. We have 30 kiosks around the stadium and we opened six of them and it went very well.
