AS the credit crunch bites, Tameside is bucking the trend with over 1,000 new jobs being created in the district thanks to strong retail investment within Tameside’s Economic Development Zone.

Though the M60 continues to be one of the key drivers for development, the European funding has fuelled investment and enabled Tameside to attract major retailers such as IKEA to the area.

Elsewhere in the area, the final countdown to the reopening of Ashton-under-Lyne’s market hall is now underway.

Gutted by fire four years ago, the Grade II-listed building has benefited from £16m of investment and is expected to increase footfall to the town centre when it reopens on November 28.
