Georgina Harvey, president of the Newspaper Society, is coming to Manchester to talk to the city's communication professionals about the major changes taking place in the regional press.
As managing director of Trinity Mirror Regionals, which acquired MEN Media last year, she has had a hands-on role steering newspapers through turbulent times caused by structural shifts within the sector and the uncertainty of a weak economy.
The event will focus on the core strengths of the regional press and how it is now reaching bigger audiences than ever across its print and online platforms.
Maria McGeoghan, Editor-in-chief of MEN Media, will also speak at the Manchester Publicity Association's business lunch where she will be discussing the merger of the MEN with Greater Manchester's weekly publications within a multi-media newsroom.
They will be joined by guest speaker Joƫlle Watkins, corporate communications manager for Emirates UK, who will discuss how the company married marketing innovations with an editorial partnership to promote the introduction of the Emirates A380 superjumbo at Manchester Airport.
All three will be taking questions from fellow communications professionals at the networking event in Castlefield.
MPA board member Richard Roycroft said: "The regional press is evolving and adapting to the continuous change in the media landscape and is as relevant to communities today as it ever has been.
"The MPA lunch is a chance to find out how the industry has responded to the recent challenges, how it will evolve through its next pivotal chapter and how Manchester has led the way to show increased readership and reach.
"It is also an opportunity to find out how Emirates has harnessed this to great effect."
The event will be held at the Castlefield Rooms on Wednesday, June 8, from 12.30pm. For more information contact Keely McIntosh via keely.mcintosh@natmags.co.uk or 0161 962 9254.
