CONSTRUCTION of a new Piccadilly office block has reached a landmark. A topping out ceremony at Four Piccadilly Place means that construction of the 110,000 sq ft office block is now racing towards completion.

Contractors are expected to finish work on the scheme by September next year.

Led by David Liming of contractors Carillion, the ceremony marked the completion of the building's structure. It was begun in May this year.

The entire Piccadilly Place scheme includes the four-star City Inn Hotel, 167 apartments and offices.

David Liming, managing director of Carillion Building, said: "Piccadilly Place has displayed an excellent safety record and is a testimony to the hard work that the project team has put in over the years."

Director and head of UK asset management at the Carlyle Group, Mark Harris, commented: "Four Piccadilly Place is grade `A' office accommodation, right next to Manchester's main transport hub. Like Three Piccadilly Place, its location, along with its focus on sustainability, will be the key to securing blue-chip occupiers for the development."

Designed by Hodder Associates, the eight-storey building features architectural fins on the west elevation, a double-storey colonnade and a pedestrian walkway.

Savills and GVA Grimley are joint agents.
