SHOULD you be splashing out on your swimwear this summer - or can you get away with a bargain bikini. Helen Tither checks out what the supermarkets have on offer.

CHEROKEE AT TESCO

Our favourite range this year, this line has gone for a really tropical feel - the perfect antidote to our iffy weather. Just the thought of stocking up on these bright bikinis is enough to send us dashing to the travel agents.

Going for bold colours, tropical prints, and funky details, this is the type of swimwear designed to make you feel super stylish on the sand. And, for the more discreet, there is also a nice range of full cossies - we particularly love the sexy black number on our cover.

It also wins hands down in the accessories stakes with some fab bags, head scarves, and giant floppy hats to keep you in the shade

GEORGE AT ASDA
This supermarket giant usually beats its rivals hands down in the fashion stakes. This time round, however, they seem to have gone for classic looks over trends in the swimwear department.

Sticking to earthy muted colours, they have opted for safari chic with cossies and bikinis in shades of brown and stone. Just the ticket for anyone looking to blend in on the beach this year - not quite so hot for anybody looking for something more tropical.

In terms of styles, however, there is something for everyone - from tankinis to bikinis and cossies - so it would be well worth having a look

TU AT SAINSBURY'S
From what we have seen so far, this range specialises in simple, flattering designs and this latest summer collection doesn't disappoint.

Like George at Asda they have gone for something of a safari look with some shades of brown - but this time livened up with splashes of gold or sexy cut-out details on swimming cossies. For the younger at heart there is also a bit of a more tropical touch with a fab tankini, with tie-at-the-waist detail.

Plus, the cut of the suits looks sure to flatter most figures - with cute crochet tops providing the chance to cover up.

STYLE: Something for everyone in a good basic collection, with some trendier details
