The Decleor Sunrise treatment combines fake tan, lymphatic drainage massage and facial. Helen Tither tests it out.

THE TREATMENT:

Decleor Sunrise treatment

THE PLACE:

Spa of Senses, Marriott Worsley Park Hotel and Country Club, Worsley, Salford. Tel. 0161 975 2000

THE COST:

£38 for one hour treatment

THE LOWDOWN:

Not much chance of a natural tan if you are staying at home this summer. So, if you want to look sunkissed you're going to have to hit the bottle - or soak up a spray tan.

The good news is that, with the millions spent on modern tanning technology, you can now fake it without looking like a footballer's wife.

Decleor have come up with a cunning treatment - the Sunrise - which combines an all-over fake tan with sun-protection technology meaning you go on your hols with a tan and your skin is better prepared to face the sun's rays, being less likely to burn. Plus, you can take some of the tanning lotion used with you to top up while you're away. Including an all-over body scrub, followed by a lymphatic drainage massage and facial, it should leave you chilled out, too.

THE VERDICT:

I've never really seen the appeal of faking it. You won't get me in one of those booths with nothing but my modesty and a pair of paper knickers to face the therapist's spray tan gun. So this sounded much more glamorous. Set in the footballers' haven of the Marriott in Worsley, it's a luxurious alternative and not that bad on the pocket at £38 for an hour's treatment.

First the all-over scrub with Atlantic and Dead Sea salts to get rid of flaky skin, leaving a smooth surface less likely to streak. A quick shower and it's time for the massage using the tanning lotion - which has none of that sickly biscuity smell of other bottle tans, thanks to Decleor's aromatherapy credentials.

Topped off with a relaxing facial and you're good to go. Or should that be glow.

As for the tan itself, next morning I can report a natural sunkissed look that had plenty of my mates fooled. Well recommended.
