Simon Donohue on staying young

Style writer Simon Donohue

Y is for the price of eternal youth

WHAT price eternal youth?

Kill a bat, drink its blood and you'll be fined £5,000 for murdering a critter boasting protected status. Queue outside Boots for long enough and you might just get the chance to pay £17 for the legendary No7 serum. Cheaper still, why not do a business deal with the devil?

Alternatively, keep your money (and soul) in the bank.

John Ryan is the pioneering plastic surgery magnate behind the Transform and Make Yourself Amazing clinics. He says that men don't have nearly as much to worry about as women when it comes to looking good for longer.

"I don't think men are driven as much to look good," he says. "Men naturally age better than women. They have a better muscle structure and that means that a lot of men in the 60s don't actually look too bad.

"By contrast, a lot of women start to age really badly from the age of 40 onwards."

However, John is quick to point out the part played in the ageing process by mother nature. "It helps if you have good genes in the first place," he adds.

And, of course, there is another way of preserving your looks and ensuring longevity. You could eat well, drink less, quit smoking and move to a place where cow-tipping serves as top quality entertainment.

You won't live any longer but it will feel like an absolute eternity.
