Exploring the life of the spirit

Barbara Meiklejohn-Free

As a three-year-old, Barbara Meiklejohn-Free says she saw the spirit of a Native American Indian at the foot of her bed. Then, at the age of 12, she met a psychic called Swain Donald who told her she had 'the gift'.

“As soon as I went in the room, Swain said to me 'You've got the gift of second sight'.

“My parents had said I was imagining things, but I wasn't, and Swain recognised that.

“We all have psychic abilities to some extent, but it's drummed out of us as children.

“To me it's always been natural, not something to fear.”

Now a medium and spiritual healer, Barbara travels across the UK and USA.

She will be at the two-day Mind Body Spirit fair in Stockport this weekend.

On Saturday, Barbara, 55, from Buxton, will hold a meditation called 'Bring Love Into Life', aimed at helping participants to get rid of emotional pain. And on Sunday, another meditation process, 'Twin Flames', will encourage participants to strengthen their emotional thoughts so they can realise their potential in life.

The fair is aimed at anyone who wants to learn more about self-healing, astrology and mediums.

There will be demonstrations and workshops in massage, aromatherapy and past-life regression, as well as performances by Egyptian dancers and a didgeridoo player.

The event is organised by holistic therapist Rosemary Douglas, who runs similar events around the country.

“The fair is all about health and healing. The physical, emotional and spiritual are all connected.

“Some visitors might want closure if a loved one has departed, while others might be wondering about where their life is going and are embarking on a spiritual journey.”

She adds: “I believe holistic therapies can complement treatments offered by the orthodox route of medicine. It's just a different way of helping people.”
