Here's the latest in exercise clothing for those fitness resolutions. Lucy Kinder interviews the modelling competition winners who are gearing set for a fast and furious new year.
Millions of Brits have pledged to get fit in 2012.
But for our two models this year is all about embarking on an exciting new career.
Twenty two-year-old Alex Ewart from Knutsford, and Zsanett Rezmuves, 21, from Bolton won a competition to find the new modelling faces of Manchester.
They have both been signed by Boss Models after strutting their stuff at the Manchester Loves Fashion event last month.
So we put them through their paces for their first professional photoshoot in the city centre.
Alex admits he had been planning on a career in property, having recently completed a degree in politics at Nottingham University, until his mum entered him into the competition.
He said: “Mum made me do it, I wasn't that keen, I was trying to get a proper job. But I was so glad when I did do it and I was shocked when I won.”
Zsanett said she was amazed when she found out that she had won the competition: “I couldn't believe it, I have never won anything before so I was very happy.”
Embarking on their first shoot brought differing views from Alex and Zsanett – particularly about stripping down into the skimpy swimwear outfits.
Alex said: “I'll do anything. I wouldn't mind if it was naked!
“I know some people get self conscious but it was all good fun. It was a laugh doing swimwear. If you are going to be a model you can't turn up and say I don't want to do it.”
But Zsanett admits she needed some encouragement. “I didn't feel confident. It was the first time I had modelled a bikini and I was very scared. I know I need to get more confident”
The shoot itself featured a few daring shots, including one of Alex seemingly scaling the outside of the towering Skyline Apartments in the city centre. The shoot took place on the 18th floor of the building and while the image is partly an illusion, Alex enjoyed the experience.
He said: “It was freezing and we were playing around so it looked like I was hanging off the building. It looks pretty cool. It was an adrenaline rush. I love playing around with shots.”
Alex has been keeping himself model fit with regular visits to the gym, although he said that he has had to cut down his sessions with weights because he was developing too much muscle:
“I have always been a sporty bloke but since university I got into the gym in a hardcore way,” he says.
“I was body building and I got a bit too big so now I focus on cardio and toning, getting my abs really ripped rather than making myself bigger. But I do see the gym as part of the job”.
He said that he also enjoys healthy eating: “It's a bit of an obsession. I always look at the back of things to see how many calories things contain and I know what the different superfoods are. It is a lot easier to eat healthily now that I'm not living the student life.”
Zsanett also enjoys exercise, but said she doesn't particularly worry about it: “I do yoga and walking but I don't work out a lot. I enjoy it but I didn't think I needed to work out too much.”
After their first taste of modelling, both Zsanett and Alex want to pursue a full time career in front of the lens.
At the moment Alex is working part time in a wine bar but he hopes his modelling career will take off:
“It's amazing. Who wouldn't want to do this full time? I could go to Milan or Paris and get paid to travel the world for a bit. I just want to see where this takes me.”
