AN eminent barrister who has helped over 1,000 accident victims to achieve compensation for crippling spinal and brain injuries has demystified the legal processes that leave many claimants baffled.
Bill Braithwaite QC, who practices in Manchester and Liverpool, has written a book which explains to claimants and their lawyers how to map the often complex and drawn-out progress of legal actions through the courts.
''My experience is that failure to communicate can be an enormous obstacle to the successful conclusion of a case, and I would hope that communication is made easier if all concerned understand the basic principles involved,'' said Mr Braithwaite.
''The book is aimed at all those involved in the process of litigation following a severe injury to the brain or spine: the person who has been injured, the family, loved ones and friends, as well as the various caring professionals and the lawyers.''
His book sets out, step-by-step, how the presentation of a financial claim is arrived at, concentrating on each aspect of future needs.
Mr Braithwaite, who has spent his entire professional life conducting personal injury legislation, said that having dealt with more than 1,000 severely injured people, he was convinced that simple rules of efficiency, rather than complex legal principles, were likely to be the key to the successful outcome of a case.
He works solely on behalf of claimants, not for insurance companies or other organisations that may have been responsible for injuries being caused.
''I feel that claimants should fight for a fair and just result,'' said Mr Braithwaite.
''I understand the bitterness which they and their families may be feeling against the person who caused the injuries, and against life in general for dealing them such a harsh blow, but I still feel we should seek only a fair and just result.''
