Mortgage round-up

MARKETPLACE - Bradford and Bingley's high street mortgage outlet - is offering borrowers a £25 gift voucher if they cannot come up with a money-saving mortgage deal.

''Recent cuts in interest rates have meant that many can benefit from lower rates,'' says regional business director Roland Hughes.

''It will depend on individual circumstances, but, in general, there are savings to be made in today's market.''

He cites the example of a borrower seeking a £60,000 repayment mortgage over 25 years on a Standard Variable Rate of seven per cent.

''Their monthly repayment rate would be £429.05, but in comparison, a two-year capped rate of 5.25 per cent, giving a monthly repayment of £363.70 would provide a saving of £65.35 a month.

''Over the two-year period this works out to a total saving of £1,568.40 subject to any charges. These sort of figures are hard to ignore.''

Marketplace is offering two free guides to offer further understanding of the mortgage process - Buying Your First Home and Mortgage Choice.

Both are available from your local branch.
