A MAJOR new music festival aimed at celebrating different cultures is to take place in Manchester.
The Respect Festival is coming to the city for the first time in August. It has been held in London since 1996 where it has attracted many big names including Run DMC and De La Soul.
Now a Manchester version of the event is to be launched on August 30. It is expected to be headlined by a major chart act to be announced soon.
The London festival was set up by the TUC to promote cultural diversity.
It is hoped more than 20,000 people from across the region will attend the north west version at Platt Fields in Fallowfield.
It will be the biggest free outdoor concert in Manchester this summer and is being organised by Manchester-based Ear To The Ground.
Director Nadine Andrews said: "The concept behind the festival is respect for people and the environment. We want to make a social statement and we hope that as well as entertaining people we will also make them think."
The event will feature a mix of musical acts on four stages. In addition to the musical acts there will be market stalls, craft displays and a variety of workshops.
The Respect Festival takes place on Saturday, August 30. Keep an eye on the website below, where more details will be announced soon.
