To describe Berlin based DJ/producer collective Jazzanova as perfectionists would have to be the understatement of the year.
Sometimes taking as long as three months to complete a remix, it's no wonder that their debut album "In Between", which was scheduled to be released in the spring of 2000, is only now about to see the light of day.
Ever since they burst onto the scene with the Brazilian influenced "Fedime's Flight" back in 1997, the name Jazzanova has perennially been on the lips of every clued-up DJ, music writer, record shop worker or music enthusiast.
Eschewing any kind of pigeonholing, their productions have displayed a deep appreciation of many musical forms from jazz, hip hop, drum n' bass, house and Latin and as such, have left many of the style and music magazines (of which ALL have courted the group) floundering for adequate descriptives.
Their releases, whilst varying greatly in tempo, mood and apparent complexity are underpinned by some of the most detailed, intricate and original drum programming in current music production. Almost unbelievably at times, their music remains as engaging to the critical listener as it is accessible to the nightclub dancer.
Shying away from the nu-jazz/broken beats umbrella, they are nevertheless regarded as leaders of the scene. In reality though, the only sound they truly fit into is the sound of Jazzanova.
It's fitting that this forthcoming DJ date should occur both in the Band On The Wall (a comfortable venue with great sound and an impressive, eclectic musical history) and as an Electric Chair presentation, with Jazzanova's Marshmellows and Ian Pooley remixes having achieved anthem status at their club.
If you've not heard them yet, I couldn't imagine a better opportunity to become acquainted with the inimitable sound of Jazzanova.
