College lays on convention

SO it's official. Manchester is now a hotbed of creative talent with ideas and talent fair oozing from the city streets.

Now this may be something you already know, or it may all sound like press-generated garbage. Either way, more and more people are yearning for a way into this highly competitive industry and new talent is always a prized commodity.

Hence the 'City College Manchester Music Convention', a two-day event mixing workshops, panels and live events and aimed at students with a desire to learn about the many-headed beast that is the music industry.

The convention aims to cover everything from industry essentials to the role of technology in music and guest speakers such as Mr Scruff, Christian Wood and Chris Jam will be passing on their hard earned knowledge.

Legal issues, promotion and community issues will also be featured and, alongside a G-Kut turntable master class, which will be free of charge to the student hordes.

This holistic approach to education will also include live performances by Bentley Rhythm Ace and Jon Da Silva at the Music Box, and local heroes Nylon Pylon at the Comedy Store.

BRA always guarantee an eventful and entertaining evening and, as for Nylon Pylon, any band that sounds like a laptop thrown into a jet engine has to be a good thing. Music and learning, it's the way forward.

The City College Manchester Music Convention takes place on Monday, June 9 and Tuesday, June 10. See the websites below for more.
