DISCO diva Kylie Minogue has announced a record-breaking sixth appearance at the Manchester Evening News Arena.
Demand for her British tour has gone through the roof with fans snapping up tickets within hours of them going on sale.
She will now add Saturday May 4 to her five other dates at the Arena, taking ticket sales for the Manchester shows to more than £2m.
No other solo artist in the six-year history of Europe’s biggest indoor concert venue has played more than five nights, including Robbie Williams.
The pop icon will break the records for the longest run by any female act and the biggest box office revenue of any female artist, beating the Spice Girls run of four shows at the height of their popularity.
Kylie first appeared at the Arena last year when she made a surprise guest appearance with Robbie Williams to sing their duet Kids.
She also took to the stage to sing her number one hit Can’t Get You Out Of My Head at the Top of the Pops awards at the venue last month.
Achievement
John Knight, assistant general manager at the MEN Arena, said: ‘‘It’s an amazing achievement by any artist to sell more than 75,000 tickets in one city. The fever tour is well named because Kylie is hot and we are obviously delighted she is playing more dates here than anywhere else on the tour.’’
Peter Wilson, of Triple A, which is promoting the tour, said: ‘‘We managed to find an extra window during the tour and Manchester came up with the date.
‘‘We are delighted to be coming back for an extra date and so is Kylie.
‘‘ The demand for tickets for this tour has exceeded everyone’s expectations.
‘‘Tickets for Wembley sold out faster than Madonna and that just shows how popular she is.’’
Kylie has sold more than 250,000 tickets for her tour, which starts in Cardiff on April 26 and finishes at Wembley Arena on May 27.
Bosses at the Arena are planning to mark the occasion with a special presentation. Tickets go on sale today for the extra Manchester date and are available by calling 0161 930 8000.
