They've been around a while. Oasis that is. Some of you might not remember the history of it all. Let us take you back 10 years to a time when Oasis was Rain and Noel was a roadie with the Inspiral Carpets. He never did made it into the band.
1991: Oasis, comprising Liam Gallagher, Paul ''Guigsy'' McGuigan, Paul ''Bonehead'' Arthurs and Tony McCarroll, took the stage at the Manchester Boardwalk in August, supporting a band called Sweet Jesus (remember them? Thought not!). Noel - who was watching in the audience - stepped in as guitarist, songwriter and leader. It was named Oasis after the Oasis Leisure centre in Swindon.
1992: It all takes off towards the end of the year - the band, the gigs, the demo. They did, however, get turned down by Manchester's leading label Factory and Noel was still touring with the Inspirals.
1993: Creation Records boss Alan McGee sees Oasis play at King Tut's in Glasgow. They shouldn't really be there, but bullied their way onto the bill. McGee is impressed, however, Oasis don't sign with Creation until October after - wisely - playing the field. Their first London gig is at the Powerhaus in November. By December Radio 1 has playlisted Columbia.
1994: Brotherly love was always part of the magic but it was a fight between Liam and Bonehead that led to the cancellation of the bands first dates outside the UK. The 15-date British tour with Whiteout goes ahead.

March: Supersonic charts at no31. It even gets NME Single Of The Week next to these telling comments: "If Oasis didn't exist, it's hard to believe anyone would have the gall to invent them. Thrilling? Absolutely. Stars? Inevitably. And? Simply a great rock'n'roll group." London's Royal Albert Hall beckoned. The occasion? Creation's 10th anniversary.

June-Aug: From Glastonbury to the 'Shakermaker'(no11) and their first top ten with 'Live Forever', to the chart topping debut album 'Definitely Maybe', produced by the group and Mark Coyle, glory was all theirs.
-
Oct: 'Cigarettes and Alcohol' reaches no7. Oasis also win best UK Band at the European MTV awards.
-
Dec: Everybody loves 'Whatever'. Are Oasis, in fact, better than the Stone Roses?
1995: A tricky year. It starts off well with another American tour, coupled with an album in the American charts. They win Best New Band, Album Of The Year and Single Of The Year ('Live Forever') at NME's Brat awards and Best Newcomer at the Brits. 'Some Might Say' is the bands first no1 in April. Oasis are invited to support REM. On the down side drummer McCarroll is fired and replaced by Alan White after a fight with the Gallagher brothers and the media incite a Britpop war. Oasis critics talk of Status Quo and Beatles rip offs.

Oct: Oasis' second album '(What's The Story) Morning Glory' goes straight to no1 and becomes one of the defining records of the '90s. The 'Wonderwall' EP is released entering the charts at no2. "A 'Penny Lane' for the nineties," say NME.
1996: Awards for Best Video, Best Group and Best Album at the Brits and increasing bad behaviour. 'Don't Look Back In Anger' goes straight to no1. They play Knebworth in front of 250,000. Two weeks later Liam refuses to sing with the group as they record an 'MTV Unplugged' special at London Festival Hall. Their ninth American tour is cancelled due to a Gallagher bust up. After which they receive praise again for 'D'You Know What I Mean', the first single from the third album, 'Be Here Now'.
1997: The backlash year. 'Stand By Me' is released as the second single taken from 'Be Here Now'. The press are no longer impressed.
1998: Patsy Patsy Patsy. Instead of touring America Liam is "house-hunting " with new wife Patsy Kensit. Noel carries on alone. By November 'The Masterplan', a collection of B-sides, is released to much appreciation.
1999: What's going on? Bonehead quits while recording a new album in France. Paul McGuigan does too and Alan McGee folds Creation Records. Bad boy Liam becomes a father and calls his son Lennon after the late Beatle. New Oasis recruits are Gem from Heavy Stereo as guitarist and Andy Bell, formerly with Hurricane #1, as the new bass player. Despite which 'Go Let It Out', the first single from album 'Standing On The Shoulder Of Giants' goes to no1.
2000: 'Standing On The Shoulder Of Giants' is released on the group's new Big Brother label. The music press are still unimpressed. Noel walks out on a European tour because of Liam's "impossible" behaviour. He rejoins the band for a British and Irish tour.
A Rumour spreads across the UK that the Reading and Leeds festivals will be the last chance to see Oasis live. Tosh!
2001 Oasis celebrate ten years playing two sell out gigs at the Manchester Apollo.
