In The City pop of the week

BILLIE RAY MARTIN, Life Cafe, Tuesday.

Campest diva in Deutschland hatches plan for life after Your Lovin' Arms. ''I've moved around a lot, I toured around the States, singing Your Lovin' Arms for everybody. Then I went to Memphis, Tenessee, to record the album, then went to Hamburg to do some electronic work on it.

''The album then came out and I moved to Berlin. Do I get sick of it? Never the song, I still really like it. The only thing I found quite hard is to actually place it in my show. Because the lyrics on my new album are pretty hardcore I think, they have like a punk attitude.

''We've done what is a little in vogue right now, and kind of hard, Morodrey type, very minimal. I just think about that song, all of a sudden I'm a disco vocalist - it's really bizarre.

''I started singing soul over electronic music, and then house turns to disco. I'm like, 'How did I get there?' So I wanted to break out, and I think I did with this album.''
