Gorillaz to star in Speilberg film

Cartoon band Gorillaz is in negotiations with legendary director Steven Spielberg about a full-length animated feature film.

The news comes as Gorillaz - fronted by Blur's Damon Albarn and beats generator Dan the Automator - prepare to play Manchester Academy, Wednesday September 21.

It's not long since the band hit the headlines by sensationally abstaining from the Mercury Music Awards. PJ Harvey was crowned this year's music maestro.

It also coincides with the launch of A.I, Speilberg's latest Hollywood blockbuster (Go to cinema for a full review).

Pop fan

A few years ago Spielberg actually invited Supergrass to work on a tv series. They turned him down and grew some more side-burns instead.

Big in the US

Gorillaz self-titled debut album has now sold around 300,000 copies in the USA in just six weeks, and is expected to go Top 10.

No doubt if the film goes ahead Alban's brain-child will become a merchandiser's dream and a conscious-driven pop-star's nightmare.
