IAN Brown makes his return on Monday September 16, with new single F.E.A.R. out on Polydor. Taken from forthcoming third solo album Music Of The Spheres, it comes with a video he directed all by himself.

Brown has remixed the fab new single from Manic Street Preachers - out this week through Epic. In related news, Simian (doh!) release another single from bonkers album Chemistry Is What We Are.

Monday, September 24, sees the local four-piece put out One Dimension through Source. Punk favourites Goldblade take another break from recording their new album and play the Witchwood on Saturday. Support comes from Velvet Shore, Herrod and Poet Dogs.

A NEW Garbage record is always going to be special, but in advance of their third LP, Beautifulgarbage, they've been awarded with their own day. And while we know a cunning stunt when we see one, there are playbacks of a wonderful record on offer.

The album isn't released until October 1, but you can hear it at The Font (7pm-9pm), Jillys (9pm-11pm) and Big Hands (9pm-11pm). That's four whole hours of Shirley Manson if you time the buses right.

Beautifulgarbage is the band's most ambitious work to date, typically dark, but with added pop sheen. Not surprising, considering the band were at the height of their powers.

''I was able to come up with stuff on the spot much easier, ''says Shirley Manson of the album's recording in Wisconsin. ''We were at such a comfortable point with each other, I was able to do that.''

Lead single Androgyny is out on September 24 through Mushroom.
