Rooney dreams of World Cup glory

THE cousin of Manchester United and England star Wayne Rooney is making his own bid for World Cup glory by recording his own anthem.

Singer James Rooney hopes to take on Embrace and a host of Manchester musicians by releasing a song called Dreams for the contest in Germany.

The 21-year-old even says he is hopeful Wayne's fiancée Coleen McLoughlin will star in the video.

He said: "When I heard the final cut of the track it blew me away. I gave a copy to Wayne and Coleen, who also liked it, and they said they would help me along the way."

James, who grew up with Wayne in the Croxteth area of Liverpool, believes he and the band, called No Reason, will win the support of fans and become the unofficial anthem for the contest.

He said: "One idea is to have lots of happy, cheering people, including some celebrities, invading a football pitch and singing.

"We'd love to have Coleen there as a backing singer or chanting with the crowd."

Flintshire

The band, from Flintshire, used their music industry contacts to get the England star's cousin on board.

Songwriter and lead guitarist Steve Maitland, 47, said: "We sent James a demo of the song and he liked it so much he agreed to come over and do the vocals.

"He is very close to Wayne and Coleen and, when he played the song to them, they loved it.

"Coleen said she wants to be in the video and now we're just waiting for a date from her agent. Hopefully we'll be shooting in the next two or three weeks."

James and the band recorded the track in Steve's garage in Ewloe, and released it themselves on the internet.

It is being officially distributed by Matchbox Recordings, and is available on CD or can be downloaded from the internet.

You can listen to the song below.
