Who tops Manc chart?

THERE can be no doubt that Manchester's music scene remains one of the strongest in the country after a top 40 of purely Manc tunes of the year was compiled.

The list was created by BBC GMR DJs Terry Christian and Conrad Murray for a live countdown on Monday.

And it was Elbow who captured the coveted number one spot with their single Forgot Myself.

Unsatisfied

Up-and-coming Manchester band Nine Black Alps came in at number two with Unsatisfied, with megastars Oasis having to be content with number three for The Importance Of Being Idle.

Conrad tells me he and Terry were spoilt for choice to come up with just 40 for the list - even though they imposed a limit of one song for each band for the chart.

"It's been a great year for Manchester music," says Conrad.

ROWETTA is the greatest artist to come out of 2006 in my opinion. She is truly amazing in every sense - her vocal range can only be compared to music greats such as Diana Ross & Tina Turner, if not better, and her debut (S/T) album is a must buy for anybody who appreciates high quality music. The album's self-penned tracks are pretty touching aswell, as we see Ro in a different light through her own songs. Manchester should be proud to have bore such an awesome talent. Rowetta's voice is like honey. It's rich, smooth & boy, do I want more !

Elbow at no.1 eh? How are these results compiled? And Oasis at no.3. Yawn! Beatles wannabees that peeked before their first album. Wow Liam's wrote a track. About ruddy time! Maybe that's his interpretation of the importance of being idle since retiring to London Village. Good to see New Order in there, but sad to see how ungrateful Manc is for the group that made the scene what it is now. Should have been no. 1 BY A MILE!!!
It's Bernard Sumner's 50th birthday today/yesterday. Happy Birthday Barney! I hope an ungrateful Manc has bought you a pint!

How lucky Manchester is to have so many talented people. I only knew of four of the acts in the list, but I'm getting on a bit and dont keep up with all the young acts.
I must say Rowetta was a breath of fresh air on XFactor. Her album is well worth listening to,as it caters for all tastes.I hope her next album is of the same calibre. She has the most amazing voice and deserves all her success.
