ARDWICK'S Manchester Apollo and the Manchester City Music Network have announced they are teaming up to lay on a night of live music to raise money for the appeal.
Love from Manchester is the brainchild of local musician John Robb and artiste manager Gary McLarnan, who have used their extensive contacts within the local entertainment industry to pull together an impressive bill of live music and DJs.
Already confirmed are Badly Drawn Boy, Mercury Music Prize nominees Elbow, local favourites I Am Kloot and influential Factory Records veterans the Durutti Column.
As well hot prospects Nine Black Alps, ex-Stone Roses' guitarist Aziz, legendary bassist Jah Wobble, Kathryn Williams and Carmel.
While on the decks Graham Massey (808 State) will be joined by Andy Votel (Twisted Nerve) and Paddy Steer (Homelife).
A number of other acts are also set to be confirmed.
Gary McClarnan
On the event, Gary McClarnan said: 'In our small way we want to raise some money for the people of the Indian Ocean.
'Of course everyone has already dug deep but we want to put on a gig as a gesture of friendship from Manchester music scene to the people of Asia.
'The Apollo has kindly given us the venue for virtually nothing and the same for the PA, everyone has been touched by this disaster - and now the bands are going to do their part.
'It is a chance for bands to turn up and play and raise more dosh for the people who need it most.
'We want to get as many people to get involved a possible, any contribution is worthwhile.
'This is not about egos ' it's a gesture from Manchester musicians, an attempt to raise as much dosh as we can and have a damn good night while we are at it.'
Love from Manchester is on at the Apollo on Sunday, January 30. Tickets are priced '15. To book call the Box Office on 0870 060 1768 or click here.

Any idea's who else will be playing ths gig??
I already have my ticket but its a shame one of the big manchester legends didnt get involved.
New Order, Charlatans, Ian Brown, John Squire...You get what i mean.
I get the impression that tickets for this event aren't selling well - you can still get seats in second row of circle!! In the original email i received it promised big name bands so bought my tickets - money going to good cause so not a problem but would hope a 'name' band will sign up and make sure venue sells out and a good atmosphere is created.
Big names?? have heard rumours that The Charlatans are going to play??
But for me, Badly Drawn Boy and Elbow are good enough and big enough!!
nuff said!
I am in agreement with Jackie Brown. What's the point in The Charlatans playing to a half empty theatre? Tsunami victims will miss out on thousands of pounds just because the event hasn't been promoted properly. Face facts, if you can still get 2nd row tickets 10 days before the gig there isn't gonna be a rush for the rest unless a bigger name band is added - what about Ian Brown?
New order are releasing a new album in April, will they use this event to promote it ?if Dave from kloot reads this, good luck mate!
the gig is being promoted
it sold over 800 tickets in the first day.... without anyone being told properly about the gig
the lineup is changing every day
surely BDB and Elbow have sold out Apollo before....
seems weird to make comments on a charity gig.

Has anybody else been added to this bill yet? Where's the rumoured headliners? Or was that a cheap ploy to sell tickets? I'm happy to donate money to the cause but I'm in 2 minds as to whether it's worth the 200 mile round trip for the gig, much as I love Elbow.
Anybody??
According to New Order's website Hooky and Phil Cunningham will be playing.
I'd personally like to see Longview added to the line up.
Hooky and Phil Cunningham (both from New Order) have just been added to the bill - according to the New Order's website
OK - the day after the event. Who did turn up? I had tickets and the lack of big names just made me not be bothered - the victims of the tsunami got my money and that's the main thing. The question is - did I miss anything??
