MARK Owen hasn't enjoyed the best year of his musical career, having been dropped by Island Records, but he's ended 2004 on a high by scooping the top spot in ManchesterOnline's single of the year poll.
Makin' Out only went to number 30 in the singles charts when it was released on Mark's own label Sedna in the summer, but it rocketed straight to the top in our poll.
It means the former Take That singer has won the best single award for two consecutive years as Four Minute Warning romped home with the title last year.
Morrissey, who bagged our album of the year award, came third in the singles poll with Irish Blood English Heart, but most of the top ten was made up of brand new acts.
Heading them all was singer-songwriter Jack Cooper, in second place with his acclaimed debut EP Turn The Light Off, while Jim Noir, his labelmate on new local imprint My Dad Recordings, came in just a few places behind with his opening release Eanie Meanie.
Fingathing took fourth spot to go with their third place in the album poll, while exciting new rockers Nine Black Alps and Loose Canon both made strong showings.
The full top ten was as follows:
1 MARK OWEN ' MAKIN' OUT
2 Jack Cooper ' Turn The Light Off
3 Morrissey ' Irish Blood English Heart
4 Fingathing ' Walk In Space
5 Nine Black Alps ' Cosmopolitan
6 Jim Noir ' Eanie Meanie
7 Loose Canon ' What Comes Next?
8 Various - High Voltage EP
9 Hilton ' Killing A Girl
10 Ian Brown ' Keep What Ya Got

Well done to the lovely Mark Owen for winning single of the year with his Makin' out single.
With a fab record like that and a fab video....that he even directed himself........you better believe that he won it. good on ya's who voted for him.......and just to think that he only got to number 30 in the charts with it.........yeah right i bet he did.......more like the top 10............just goes to show you how much of the charts are a big fiddle. Well i must say that i think he's better than Robbie..........well without the wonderful Guy Chambers........where would Robbie be................erm where is he now........stuck in a rutt with no good song writer.........at least Mark's writing makes sense...........Sorry Robbie you are begining to be a bit of a bore........'same old Robster'.
They should have had a poll for best manchester male babe.........well mark you'd win it hands down........not just for your sexy looks.........but for you as a person...for the person you are within yourself, your Sooooooooooooooo sexy.

Wow! That's absolutely the best way 2005 could start. I'm so happy for Mark. I'm sure this poll means a lot to him, because it shows people still need his music. He doesn't have to believe in what charts say! He writes such wonderful music and I'm so proud of him as a talented artist and as a special human being. He's done a great job with Makin' out and he deserved to receive an award. Thanks to all who voted for him.
Take care Mark and bless us with other songs, please.
Love, Letizia.
