Volunteer with Pride

MANCHESTER Pride, the annual festival celebrating lesbian, gay, bisexual and trans-gendered life, is looking for volunteers to help make sure the festivities run smoothly.

Organisers are looking for people to help out both before and during the ten days of partying, fundraising, sport, film, arts, entertainment, debating and campaigning, which begin on August 20.

Richard Nuttall, co-ordinator of volunteers for Manchester Pride, said: "This is a fantastic opportunity to show lesbian, gay, bisexual and trans-gendered people across the world the best of what Manchester has to offer, but to do this we need your help."

Manchester has hosted similar parades in the past under names Mardi Gras, GayFest and Ab Fab Weekend, but last year's event was a particular success as the city played host to EuroPride, the biggest gay and lesbian festival in Europe.

An estimated 250,000 took part in the celebrations and helped to raise '124,000 for HIV, lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender organisations across Greater Manchester.
