THE shaggy perms that gave rock hairdressers a bad name may be gone, but Bon Jovi are still here, pleasing rock fans the world over and it’s no surprise. Their work on their latest album is rock tinged with country and blues and is a better collection for it.

This live DVD, filmed in Chicago features the album live, in running order, followed by oldies like Wanted, Dead Or Live.

The band still have it with Jon still remaining a commanding force on superb tracks like the laid back, Southern Comfort swiggin’ sound of Summertime.

The bluegrass infused Whole Lot Of Leavin’ becomes a Californian classic in their capable hands.

As Jon himself says, the new music came about, following bereavements within the band’s families and broken relationships and “comes from such a pure place.”

Live, this material has so much more to offer than a few drive-time rock ballads. 'The Seat Next To You' for example is one of their best tracks in years, as it is not the typical, ‘don’t bore us, get to the chorus’ Bon Jovi track that you are used to hearing.

Some old time Jovi fans who prefer the classic sound of old may not have taken to this new album, but I prefer this mellow Nashville sound and this Live DVD is a perfect alternative to endless repeats and rowing with the relatives this Christmas.

The oldies remain goodies as no-one does a rock anthem with as much passion as these old boys. But in Lost Highway, they have found their future and it’s as assured as this brilliant live performance.
