MOST live music DVDs prove to be very disappointing when watched at home, compared with the gig itself.
But this this one is a real winner! If you mourned the the fact that Tom Chaplin was so ill during Keane's lacklustre War Child gigs, then this is definitely for you. He is cooking on gas at the O2, here!
As soon as you hear the opening bars of the short The Iron Sea, you are in no doubt how god this band are live. Their infectious enthusiasm, pitch perfect musicianship and Chaplin's superb showmanship is hard to beat.
Put It Behind You highlights why this band are so popular on the live circuit. The audience are putty in their hands- adoring their every move.
The wonderful Nothing In My Way is simply sublime, with the band showing all, how synchronised and on the money, they can be.
Your Eyes Open done in the round in the middle of this vast arena is marvellously melodic when stripped down. Bad Dream features Neil Hannon and is so much more evocative than on record, with its haunting archive footage.
As for Crystal Ball, it makes you long to see the band live again. Fingers crossed that they will be back on the road again soon. Until then, this excellent DVD restores all of your hopes and none of your fears. Buy it!
