Still a G Thang: It's the Black Dogg Ballroom as venue changes its name in tribute to Snoop Dogg's visit to Manchester

TRIBUTE: Bruce, the bar’s mascot, with the new sign in honour of the appearance in Manchester tomorrow of rapper Snoop Dogg

Snoop Dogg fever is gripping Manchester ahead of the rapper’s eagerly-awaited appearance here tomorrow as part of the Manchester International Festival.

Music megastar Snoop is due to jet in to the city tomorrow for his Apollo gig, playing his seminal album Doggystyle in its entirety.

While it’s not yet clear whether Snoop will even stay over in Manchester following the gig, the city’s nightspots have been falling over themselves to get invitations into the hand of Snoop to join them for some revels after his eagerly-anticipated Friday night gig.

A number of bars are claiming Snoop after-parties although there is nothing official organised by MIF itself that we’ve managed to sniff out.

Meanwhile, Northern Quarter bar the Black Dog Ballroom has gone to extraordinary lengths to try and tempt Snoop their way – by changing its name for the week.

It yesterday became ‘Black Dogg Ballroom’ in Snoop’s honour, with an extra ‘G’ added to its distinctive neon sign.

Owners Ross Mackenzie and Jobe Ferguson have invited him to meet Bruce, the bar’s mascot black Patterdale terrier, after the show in the bar’s secret members’ pin protected ballroom.

Ross says: “When we heard Snoop Dogg was coming to Manchester we knew straight away we had to rename the bar in his honour. We think that the Black Dogg Ballroom is the perfect venue for Snoop’s aftershow party and Bruce is dying to meet him.”

The Diary will be snooping around the audience of the Apollo gig on Friday night – as there is set to be a host of the Dogg’s celebrity fans packing in for the occasion, too.
