If it rains this weekend, it's your duty as a Mancunian and a food and drink connoisseur to damn the deluge. So grab your umbrella and lift your spirits with a tipple at Drink In The Park, the alcoholic off-shoot of Summer In The Park.
Event organisers have gone to town with this lovely boozy sub-segment of the party: promising wine and ale enthusiasts a high quality drinking environment where they can appreciate a diverse range of local and regional ales; and taste and buy high quality wines. But what does this mean in practice?
On the wine front, it translates into a 30-strong menu of reds, whites, cavas and roses from around the world selected by local wine merchant Corks Out - housed in a marquee hosted by quirky local bar operation Odd. Odd's input will see the marquee dressed in the oddball décor familiar from its permanent city centre parent venues - think off-the-wall artwork; quaint bric-a-brac and a lovely laid-back vibe. DJs will be on hand to entertain visitors for the duration of the event.
For beer enthusiasts the ale bar is the place to be: a stand alone wooden cabin bar loaded with over 20 different examples from the best local breweries. Among many others, Marble Brewery, Greenfield, Bank Top, Hornbeam, Leyden, Millstone, Prospect, Phoenix and Hydes will all be trying to tempt your palate.
Enthusiasts claim that beer should be savoured and respected in the same way as wine - and paired with food according to the flavour and aroma of each brand. With so much great food and beer in the same locale, here's your chance to put the theory to the test.
