The individuals listed below, in alphabetical order, are just some of those better-known artists from the region.

Joe Ainsworth
Working and exhibiting in the region, Joe graduated from a BA (Hons) Fine Art Painting from University of Brighton in 2000.
John Blenkinsopp
John Blenkinsopp is a Manchester artist based at Rogue Artist Studios. He paints in both acrylics and oils on a range of surfaces including canvas, board and paper. His work is figurative and tries to blend colour, draughtsmanship and emotion.
Margaret Cahill
Manchester based artist, Margaret Cahill graduated from Manchester Metropolitan in 1995 with a BA (Hons) in Fine Art (Painting). Since graduation, Margaret has built up a steady career with numerous solo and group exhibitions in the North and South of England and aboard in Stockholm, Estonia, Taiwan and Tokyo.

Craig Clarke
Graduated from MMU with a BA Fine Art (Sculpture) in 2005. Since then he has been exhitbiting life-sized wire sculptures across the region. Click here for more information.
David Gledhill
Manchester based artist, David Gledhill graduated in 1981 with a BA (Hons) in Fine Art. Since that time he has exhibited up and down the country. David also writes for City Life magazine and many of his reviews can be found on this website.

Suzy Jones
Suzy Jones graduated from Manchester Metropolitan University in 2001 with a BA (Hons) Interactive Arts. Since then she has worked on a number of group and solo exhibitions.

The Little Artists
Duo Cake and Neave, who have a studio based in Manchester. The Little Artists have adopted Lego as one of their creative mediums. Their pieces explore the persona and mythology of the contemporary artist. Lego versions of Dali, Hirst’s shark, Gilbert and George and even the Little Artists themselves pop up in their playful digressions on branding and the art world.
Lowry
We couldn’t miss the city’s most famous son off any list of artists and Lowry lovers everywhere will probably find the most useful information at The Lowry’s website in the section dedicated to his work.
The Lowry houses the biggest public collection of works by L S Lowry and its collection now numbers around 350 paintings and drawings, ranging across Lowry's artistic career.
Chris Ofili
Manchester artist born in 1968. Best known for winning the Turner Prize in 1998. By 2000 his work was in the permanent collections of the Victoria and Albert Museum, London, the Tate Gallery, London, and the Museum of Modern Art, New York.
Sadly he seems rather elusive online but maintains his connections to the city with projects such as the Comm Ca Art Prize North.

Harold Riley
Born in Salford on 21st December 1934, this celebrated local artist has painted portraits of a long list of celebrities and dignitaries, including American President Gerald Ford, Pope John Paul, Nelson Mandela, the Duke of Edinburgh and the golfer Jack Nicklaus.
He was just 19 when his first one man show was exhibited at Salford Art Gallery. He was then selected to attend the Slade Drawing School where he studied for six years before further studies for two years in Europe. This was followed by two years in the army doing national service under conscription.
Lynne Roberts
Lives and works in Manchester. Pen and ink, water colour and collage.
Liam Spencer
Liam Spencer was born in Burnley in 1964. He graduated from Manchester Polytechnic in 1986 and has worked from studios in Manchester and Salford.
Liam has exhibited widely in both the U.K. and abroad. After he became the first artist to stage a solo exhibition at The Lowry, his work became sought-after locally.
His most characteristic work features the urban landscape of Manchester and Salford and two of his paintings are on display in the Manchester Art Gallery.
