A FASCINATING insight into colonial life makes up the latest exhibition at Manchester's Chinese Arts Centre.
Super 8 film taken by individuals and families who were once stationed in the former British Colonies as part of the colonial elite were donated to artist Erika Tan for the work.
The films cover vast regions, from Malaysia to Kenya, The Suez Canal to Hong Kong, and look at issues ranging from the political events of the time to the personal responses of the subjects.
Tan, who grew up in Singapore, has accessed vaults of material for the show and aims to illuminate hidden meanings and messages, unearthing personal and subjective histories hidden by the grander structures of empire.
Persistent Visions is at the Chinese Arts Centre from Friday, February 25 to Sunday, April 24.
