IT will illuminate Manchester like nothing before - a spectacular 7,000-watt light bouncing off a giant glass canvas in the heart of the city.
Writing With Lights, a new arts show created for the festive season, drew gasps of delight from the watching crowd when it was launched at the Urbis cultural centre.
From dusk to midnight, 70 images were last night projected from Cathedral Gardens onto the side of the Urbis building. And they will be shown at the same time until December 23.
The show, which is sponsored by NCP, celebrates everything from hieroglyphics to street art. Scott Burnham, creative director of Urbis, said: "I am delighted that Urbis is the first venue where something on this scale has been produced."
