CONTROVERSIAL artist
Michael Browne
is displaying his work-in-progress at Chorlton café-bar and comedy club, Orlando's.
Michael is famed for his painting, The Art Of The Game, which depicted
Eric Cantona
as Jesus, and caused huge controversy in the late nineties.
His decision to show the development of his work in Orlando's fits perfectly with his favourite theme: the relationship between people and places expressed through art.
"I like the idea of a bar that provides space for talk about art," says Michael. "In Europe, you quite often get artists hanging out together in bars and talking about what's going on. As an interpretation of that, and an example of it, I thought I could stick my works-in-progress on the wall in Orlando's."
The work consists of sketches, artwork, prints and some older originals that might be currently providing Michael with fresh inspiration.
"People often ask me where my ideas come from, so this is my chance to show them how the ideas grow and develop," he says.
"Artists normally keep their work under wraps until it's finished, and then grandly unveil it. This is different."
