THE LOWRY is inviting submissions from gifted Salfordians to apply for the Eric Simm Award. Set up by Salford's famous sons, Albert Finney and Harold Riley, in memory of Eric Simm, headmaster of Salford Grammar, grants of £5,000 will be given to creative talent.

This year, the award focuses on the visual arts. To qualify, you must be aged between 16-25 and from the Salford or its neighbours.

You can use any media, from canvas to video, and explore any theme. A spokesman says: "Entrants should send examples of their work (not originals), a CV and something written about themselves."

All entries should be marked with The Salford Arts and Sports Trust and sent to: The Lowry, Pier 8, Salford Quays, M50 3AZ by September 7. Tweet
