The Papers
The Oldham Advertiser was founded in 1982 and has made itself very much part of Oldham's life.

Now greater resources have been put into the title which has seen both its editorial content and advertising range significantly enhanced. Oldham has a new motors section and the Weekender entertainments format is being rolled out here.

The Market
Oldham is a thriving regional centre. Its Spindles shopping complex complements the existing town centre and the famous Tommyfield Market. Out-of-town shopping centres have brought many more retailers into Oldham.

Leisure facilities include the acclaimed Coliseum theatre. Oldham's industry is very diversified nowadays and Seton Health Care is one of several major employers based in the town.

There is much modern residential development, particularly in the Royton and Shaw areas. The traditional stone-built villages of Saddleworth are highly prized by commuters, who make use of direct rail services to Manchester and Leeds.

Communication Links
Out-of-town shopping centres have brought Oldham has its own motorway link to the M62, giving it excellent access to the towns and cities of Lancashire and West Yorkshire. Manchester is a short drive away.

Already good rail links will be enhanced by the construction of the Metrolink tram system to Oldham.
