In June, you were kind enough to publish my letter calling for the congestion charging scheme to be rejected on principle.
I would now like to congratulate the electorate of Greater Manchester and thank them for their emphatic vote against the TIF proposals.
It represents a triumph for common sense in the face of a barrage of spin, half-facts and not a few downright lies.
It is now appropriate to ask for the resignation of all those local government politicians and officials who actively promoted these flawed proposals.
They should personally reimburse local council tax payers the £34m that has been squandered promoting this absurd scheme.
Furthermore, I trust the GMPTE representatives attending the Road User Charging 2009 Conference in London in January will pass on the sentiments of the Greater Manchester electorate in no uncertain terms and advise their colleagues that we, the general public, are not stupid and will not be manipulated by self-serving politicians.
