Road scheme clarifications

I would like to clarify the following points in response to the article Traffic Plan Approved (01/08/08).

The article states that councillors approved a compulsory purchase order for land in front of number 316-336 Manchester Road.

The privately owned land required for the scheme is actually in the frontage of the properties on the west side of Manchester Road, from 277-301 inclusive.

It also stated that a four-week consultation on the plans was carried out in April 2006.

The principle of this junction improvement scheme has been proposed by the council for many years and this lead to a consultation on a draft proposal in April 2006.

Discussions over land acquisition, with frontages whose land would be affected by the proposed scheme, started in June this year.

The draft proposals in 2006 included a left turn lane from Manchester Road into Park Road, in front of the shops, but this was deleted from the scheme following the 2006 consultation.

The current scheme does not include a left turn lane from Manchester Road into Park Road and there is no lay-by in front of the shop premises shown in your article, which are not affected by the proposed scheme.

Finally, I am very pleased that progress is now being made with this scheme as it will bring improvements to traffic flows along this section of the A56, the busiest road in our

borough.

Cllr Matthew Colledge, Executive Councillor for Highways and Transportation, Trafford Council
