I FULLY endorse the sentiments of your correspondent, James Burns (Metro News, January 18) when he says that politicians are viewed with contempt by the general public.
When one considers the self-importance of MPs and, to a lesser extent, councillors, their ‘noses in the trough’ mentality is there for all to see.
When public sector workers are limited to below-inflation pay rises MPs have the gall to demand a through-the-roof pay increase. Their highly attractive £60,000 basic salary plus huge annual expenses is deemed not enough.
They have lost touch with the man and woman in the street who finance their lavish lifestyles.
The past 10 years of Labour has seen an almost 100 per cent council tax increase, numerous stealth taxes to pick our pockets and billions given away in foreign aid while our OAPs scrape by on a totally inadequate pension.
