RE: ‘COWARDLY thugs must be caught’ (Metro News, January 4), I am trying to convince people of the merits of local community policing to help us build safe communities, ruled by adults who take responsibility for their children, and combating the anti-social behaviour that ruins lives.

If you agree with the article titled Dixon of Dock Green at the bottom of the page on the following link – http://national-pcsos.co.uk/id58.html – please make your support known to our local Police Community Support Officer and Greater Manchester Police authorities, so we can begin to build safer communities. I pray and hope that people see the importance of this, support the initiative and support me in trying to get it implemented here in south Manchester on out blighted estates.

I believe strongly that PCSOs are the way forward. They have been getting a lot of stick in the media lately, probably from people living in ivory towers who know very little about our circumstances.

I believe that they are an extremely important part of combating anti-social behaviour in our communities.
