Manchester Evening News has teamed up with The Railway Touring Company, to offer one lucky reader the chance to win a pair of first class tickets on The Auld Reekie Manchester to Edinburgh  day tour departing March 24th.

First Class travel includes morning coffee with a Danish pastry and afternoon tea with scones, jam and cream, along with a selection of finger sandwiches.

The tour route passes through the beautiful Cumbrian Fells to the Border City of Carlisle, then crosses the River Solway into Scotland at Gretna and climbs through the magnificent scenery of the Scottish Southern Uplands around Beattock, Symington and Abington. The winner then  travels eastwards across the Central Belt, with distant views of the famous Forth Bridge as we approach Edinburgh.

Arriving in Edinburgh soon after 11:30 you’ll have ample time to explore its many places of interest and historic landmarks. Soon after 15:00 steam locomotive, No. 70013 “Oliver Cromwell”, will be waiting at Edinburgh Waverley for the return journey. This includes significant hill climbs to summits at Cobbinshaw (880ft), Beattock (1,015ft) with superb views over the Scottish hills and Shap (916ft), and then follows the descent into the spectacular Lune Gorge. Passing through Carnforth Station, famous as the location for the wartime film “Brief Encounter”, and Lancaster, before stopping at Preston, Wigan and Bolton to set down passengers before arriving at Manchester Victoria and the end of an unforgettable trip.

5. The promotion runs from Tuesday 14th February 2012 until Monday 20th February 2012 inclusive. The winner will be drawn from all entrants at the end of the promotion. The winner will be drawn at random and notified via the phone number supplied with entry on Monday 20th February 2012  If a winner cannot be contacted on , Monday 20th February 2012 the Promoter reserves the right to cancel prize entitlement and award the prize to a reserve winner, selected at the same time as the original.

6. Regretfully, the Promoter cannot be held liable for system failures.
