Plaudits for Peter Moores as dust settles on Lancs' title win

Jim Cumbes admits Lancashire may face a battle to keep hold of County Championship-winning Maxonian Peter Moores.

The former England boss led the Red Rose to their first outright title in 77 years last week. The triumph enhanced his reputation as county cricket’s best coach, and he has already been linked with the vacant job with Sri Lanka.

Macc neighbours Alderley Edge survive the drop

Macclesfield travelled to local rivals Alderley Edge for their final game of the season, with Alderley fighting for survival in the Premier Division.

Macclesfield skipper Barney Cutbill chose to bowl first, a decision that paid instant dividends as Ian Tait bowled ex-Lancashire player Mark Currie in a great opening spell. At the other end Jack Ward also bowled well until a back injury curtailed his bowling for the day.

Bollington's record season ends on a high

Bollington completed their most successful season in the First Division with a five-wicket win over already relegated Cheadle at The Rec on Saturday.

Bowling first and dodging the heavy and persistant showers, Bolly restricted their vistors to a below-par 191-9 from a maximum 51 overs.

Poynton consigned to the drop

Bowdon ensured Poynton’s relegation with a four-wicket win at South Downs Road. Batting first after winning the toss, Poynton reached 179-9 at their declaration.

Paul Gould top-scored with 56, while Dominic Ball took 4-66 for Bowdon.

Draw for basement pair

The clash of the bottom two clubs in Division One resulted in a 14-8 winning draw for Poynton at Cheadle.

Rhys Burke led the way with the bat with 91 and Paul Gould 44 in Poynton’s useful 197-8, Chris Hyde taking 4-34 for the hosts.

Macclesfield safe in top half

Macclesfield drew at Neston to further cement their position in the top half of the Premier League.

With the sun shining, a flat wicket and the outfield looking magnificent, the hosts opted to bat and defend a total as they had successfully done in the reverse fixture.

A magnificent seven from captain Barney Cutbill saw Macc to victory over Toft on Saturday.

Having been beaten by Macclesfield in the first half of the season and being only eight points ahead, Toft were looking to get the better of them in the return fixture.

In-form Bollington suffer Bowdon blip

Bollington’s recent run of good form ended with a 55-run home defeat to Bowdon, a side containing current Lancashire star Mark Chilton and former all rounder Simon Marshall.

Bolly skipper Matt Dawson won the toss and elected to bowl on a green looking track.

Having narrowly lost to Chester earlier in the season and lost their previous three games Macclesfield were hoping to get back to winning ways.

Barrass stars with bat for Bolly

Bollington took a winning draw from their trip to Cheadle Hulme on Saturday.

Choosing to bat, Bolly compiled a competitive 226-9 from their 50 overs with contributions throughout the innings from Calum Rowe (33), Tom Gower (39), Mo Ali (33) and Tom Horsfield (26) but the star of the show was Tom Barrass with a gritty 52 not out as he guided Bolly through to secure maximum batting bonus points.

Letven leads Langley to historic cup final success

Langley celebrated their first cup final win since 1985, with a very professional performance against a fine and very sporting opponents in Trinity.

Trinity won the toss and elected to bat. Openers Myatt and Fryer looked solid as they put on 41 before Dave Letven had Fryer out LBW.
