TWO children suffered head injuries when a miniature train derailed at a garden centre in Poynton.
The accident happened at about 2pm on Friday, December 4, on one of five locomotives used by Brookside Miniature Railway, based at Brookside Garden Centre, on London Road North.
Brookside Miniature Railway manager Chris Halsall said: "There was a slight derailment that is all. Two kids have been taken to hospital for a check-up."
A spokesman for North West Ambulance Service said: "We were called at 2.09pm about a derailment on a mini railway. There were two casualties, both children, with head injuries. Two ambulances went to Stepping Hill Hospital and the police were informed."
The railway runs three steam trains – nicknamed Jane, Annie and Jean – and two which run on diesel, along a circuit almost half a mile long, serviced by a replica station modelled on one in West Somerset. It is not clear which locomotive came off the tracks.
A Cheshire Police spokesman said: "Two young children had bumped their heads and were taken to Stepping Hill Hospital for a check up. We attended and have referred the matter to the Health and Safety Executive (HSE)."
