REMEMBRANCE Sunday was marked across Macclesfield with poignant services and parades to honour those who have died in service to the country.
As the nation fell silent, residents and dignitaries paid their respect to the fallen servicemen and women on the day when Macclesfield united with the rest of the country
A main service at the Cenotaph on Park Green saw the town's leaders, Royal British Legion members, residents and ex-service personnel in a 400-strong parade led by the Silk Brass Band to honour the memory of heroes.
And six people were able to take advantage of the kind offer of free transport to the service from Access Travel.
Respects
Len Johnson, chairman of Macclesfield Royal British Legion, said: “It was a very good service with plenty of people attending to pay their respects.
“We had the biggest procession that we had ever had with more than 400 people, and judging by the distribution of the orders of service, there were a fair few people turned up to the service at the Cenotaph.”
In Prestbury the Cheshire Constabulary Band marched through the village with the Prestbury Royal British Legion branch. Names of the fallen were read out in a touching ceremony by the parish church's vicar , The Reverend Patrick Angier, to mark the ultimate sacrifice they had made.
While in Bollington, the town massed at the memorial gardens to observe an immaculate silence. Bollington Brass Band led a procession through the town joined by cadets , clergy and residents.
Later on Sunday a guided tour around Macclesfield Cemetery let people see the sacrifice made first hand by Maxonians from the Boer War to the Second World War.
* A two-minute silence will take place in front of Macclesfield Town Hall on Wednesday (November 11).

what a fantastic turn out in the town this year. I have been attending these parades every year for over 29 years now and i was impressed by the turn out not only in the actual parade but also by people down at the cenotaph. There was a good mix of young and old which was great to see. I hope the council continues to support the parade each year as its an important part of our heritage. well done to all those who work behind the scenes to make things run smoothly each year and i think the parade marshall did another great job. well done everyone..see you next year.
