FOLLOWING its surprise scheme for a super-sized supermarket on stilts, Tesco now has another plan on the horizon for its flagship Macclesfield store.
The multinational has submitted designs to the town hall to build a 35ft high "green" micro wind turbine in the car park of its Hibel Road outlet.
While a Tesco spokeswoman said the application is subject to change, the architects’ drawings are similar to turbines seen at other branches around the country such as Rochdale, and Nottingham .
The plans sent to MBC state the turbine tower would stand on the Silk Road side of the car park and feed electricity directly into the store, to reduce demand from other conventional sources.
A Tesco shopper, who did not want to be named, saw the design and said: "It looks like something you could put the petrol prices on."
The latest application follows news over the winter that the supermarket giant plans to double the floor space of the Hibel Road outlet and rebuild it on stilts.
A spokeswoman for Tesco said: "The style of any eventual wind turbine is subject to further discussions. Of course, Tesco have a broader plan for improvements to the site at Macclesfield and any granted plans for the installation of a wind turbine would be considered as to its appropriateness as part of that wider scheme. Basically, this application (for a wind turbine) may change in view of the broader scheme for improvements at the store."
The turbine would have a 15-year time limit, and noise levels would not breach local or national environmental policies, the application states.
A decision on whether to grant permission for the wind turbine will be made by MBC later this year.

Crikey, they're acting as if they are the first in the world to do this kind of thing...

But what about the pensioners and people who are now out of work? saving some money.
Recently Tesco s have removed all there no frills products from the shelves. So you can no longer get a loaf or a bottle of washing up liquid for under a pound in there stores in Macclesfield.
WHY?? Do they think that there are no pensioners or people out of a job in Macclesfield??
People are going to boycott Tescos if they keep this up against the poor there.
I know of people who are already travelling to stoke on Trent, to Asda and Morrisons once per month and stocking up there on all the cheap Necasery items they need to survive this recesion. And also travelling to Congleton for the Aldi there as well.

Supermarkets remove lines that don't sell well. So I would imagine that, if Tesco have done this, that is the reason.

Times are hard for everybody right now and all little helps. Like cheaper cleaning materials and so on makes a big difference to pensioners and people out of work.
Its the same where i live all the canarians are really struggling with no work. Especialy in the construction industry and the lack of tourists. (Well not as many coming as there used to be)
People are still buying properties here though saying they think that there money is safer on property here, than it is in the banks.
Have to admit the government here still seems to have money, new Motorway now being built, to link Puerto de Mogan (little venice) up to the existing network of motorways. And people scurrying to buy cheaper in Mogan valley here before it gets finished. Because then the prices will go up here.
I seem to have chosen an up and coming place to live in. I am lucky on that and lucky on the veg and fruit sharing neighbours as well.
Makes me feel sorry for pensioners and the unemployed elsewhere trying to afford fruit and veg and pay there rates.
My rates were only 102 euros last year here, and 30 euros for dustbin emptied for a whole year.

Not necaserily, Some people are VERY POOR where i live,
only on wages of 800 euros per month. But i can still leave my door open and know i wont be robbed by them. I am quite sure there are still poor people in England who dont steal either.
It depends on your lifestyle and personality.
