MORE than HALF of all motorists on Poynton’s two busiest roads broke the speed limit during a recent cop survey.
On London Road North, 56.4 per cent breached the 30mph restriction, while on Chester Road 54.1pc were over, according to the village’s Community Action Team (CAT).
The figures were collected by an unmanned Speed Indicator Device – known as SID – which tracks every car that passes, and collects data.
SID was placed on London Road North overnight between 3.25pm and 9.16am, during the week.
Of the 2,318 vehicles that passed in 18 hours, a total of 1,307 – 56.4pc – were driving over the 30mph speed limit. And 452 of them were over 35mph.
A similar SID survey on Chester Road – Poynton’s second busiest thoroughfare – took place between 8.58am and 4.05pm on a Saturday.
A total of 1,871 vehicles were tracked in seven hours, and 1,013 hit more than 30mph – 260 of those breaking the 35mph mark.
The village’s CAT report was unveiled at a meeting of Poynton Parish Council on Monday (November 24).
Councillor Laurence Clarke hailed the SID device as "very clever".
Coun Howard Murray added: "When SID isn’t persuading speeding idiots not to kill themselves we can also use it for other things. We could strap it onto a lamppost in the car park, and find out how many cars are going in and out, over a certain period."
Each SID costs £3,000 and weighs 14kg, the parish council was told. The councillors voted unanimously to buy a SID.

Does this not once again point to ongoing failure by our local police to address road safety? On the A523 west bound you drive into Greater Manchester and are faced with a red light camera and speed camera within 300 yds of the border. Likewise eastbound as you cross into Derbyshire.
In Poynton we are constantly coughing up parish council tax for CCTV, PCSOs and now a SID beacuse our police are unable to handle antisocial behaviour and speeding.

According to the road traffic laws, I believe that you are allowed a 10% variation discrepancy in the reading accuracy of a speedometer. Therefore many of those would have been legally under the speed limit.

I risk my life everytime i cross London Road.
They would all be happier to run me over than slow down or stop so I can cross
Even when the traffic is crawling, they still ignore pedestrians
Its not uncommon to see people driving at 50-70mph through either

Now toddle off and anoy people somewhere else, eh.

Why not put the £3,000 towards the cost of the Poynton bypass and do some positive good.

Secondly, please outline how I have proven myself to be a complete fraud on the Budget Break comment.
Come on Bill, humiliate yourself (again)

The word remains in modern usage in the phrase to be hoisted by one's own petard (or to hoist with one's own petard), which means "to be harmed by one's own plan to harm someone else" or "to fall into one's own trap", literally implying that one could be lifted up (hoisted, or blown upward) by one's own bomb.
Verifiable in Wikipedia.
Now please all of you, stop bitching and trying to score points. You are spoiling this facility for everyone else.
Just an opinion which I am sure I am not alone it.

:)
Thank you for the lesson; at least I now won't have to be grounded or banned from the internet.
You are undoubtedly a truly superior being but, sadly it seems, completely unable to spot a bit of gentle mickey taking. Or are you foisting that upon us as a Gordonite?

I am sorry for having an opinion and expressing it but you are spoiling this site.
It is also a great pity that you show such manners.
MaccSpider (03/12/2008 at 17:38)
What it seems is that you don't want anyone else to have an opinion or carry out discussion unless it fits in with your own rules.
And, as for manners, your first (if indeed they were your first, although I admit this is your first as "Woman") utterances here were scarcely polite.
Pots and kettles here I think.
I see that you have not posted anything yet directly relating to any of the topics.

You can post what you like but, like "woman", you will not post any comments on the stories will you?
Bill Kerr (04/12/2008 at 14:12)
If you do you will be shouted down by them - but I think you have already sussed that out.
They are a sad bunch who do not like discussion.

Especially coming from a Gordonite, it is a little rich.
Join in discussion please, it would be good to see you do that. Just don't get so upset when people don't think the same as you.
It's called free speech.
