WHAT a truly fantastic achievement by 23-year-old Lewis Hamilton becoming the youngest Formula One world champion in history.
I don’t usually watch motor racing but I was transfixed by the drama unfolding in the final race. It was an incredible finale to a thrilling season. I’d be reluctant to drive to the shops in a car with a steering wheel that slips off so easily, let alone travel at 200mph.
Lewis’s car didn’t even have a windscreen or mud flaps, so how he managed to see where he was going in all that spray is a testament to his amazing skill. His back up team were pretty good too, changing four tyres in seven seconds.
Lewis Hamilton promises to be a great ambassador for British sport. He’s articulate, educated and cool – exactly the kind of role model kids need. His ability to string a sentence together devoid of four letter expletives will be a revelation to the Big Brother generation-innit?
When things haven’t gone his way, Lewis hasn’t lost his composure, lashed out at his opponents or criticised his manager. He’s addressed his own failings, dug deep and worked harder.
Together with our Olympians, Lewis Hamilton made millions of us proud to be British. I salute them all.

With Libby it was the youth
With firefighters it was the police
Now who are talking about?, my money is on footballers.

Do you understand anything?

Yes he is a shining example for all youngsters. Desert the UK as soon as you can.

I think he is on about footballers this week.
I have made an observation that he has done this for the last 3 weeks, if you were as clever as me you would understand this, do not worry, I do not mind explaining it to you because we are such great pals.
Hope you have a great weekend and the sun shines where it is in expat land you live.

SC, if Slinky thinks that Vic tries to point score on every subject he talks about, you're easily as guilty as he is. There have been innumerable 'tax exiles' over the years, like the Stones, Sean Connery, Elton John...but most of these, once their accountants tell them they're stinking rich, come back here. You want them to hate this country because it's, in your eyes, failing; but that's not the reason they live abroad for a while. They seem to like it so much here that they return as soon as they can. Keith Richards couldn't wait to come back, he hated living in France. And Jagger didn't hang around there, either.
Tell you what. I'd rather live in Moss Side than in Australia - and I really mean that.
