HEYWOOD’S Township chairman, Councillor Colin Lambert, has been unanimously elected as Labour Group leader on Rochdale Council.
He is to step down from his role as Township chairman, after two years in the hot seat and says he will now concentrate on “restructuring the local party and making changes so that the public will take notice of us.”
Councillor Lambert, who has served on Rochdale Council for 11 years and is former education chairman, said: “At local level, we have learned many lessons since we lost control of Rochdale Council in 2004.
“We received our wake-up call then and now our national party has received the same kind of wake-up call. Now, at local and national level, we need to make changes.”
He succeeds Allen Brett, who has retired from the council.

Hmm, what will he then do for the rest of the day?

To paraphrase George Orwell, when someone reads the comments of a tired old hack mechanically repeating familiar phrases there is often a curious feeling that you are not watching, reading or listening to a live human being but some kind of dummy! A writer or, speaker, using such phraseology has gone some distance towards turning himself into a machine. The appropriate noises are coming out of his larynx, but his brain is not involved as it would be if he was choosing the words himself.
I fear you will inherit the punishment of Sisyphus, Colin!
