A BUSINESSMAN has followed in his father’s footsteps by opening a carpet shop.
Tony McNicholas, owner of Earle Anthony carpets and rugs store in Bridge Street, is hoping to corner the Heywood market with his lifetime of experience in the trade and a promise to cater for all tastes and budgets.
He worked for his father’s business – Anthony McNicholas Carpet Design in Lower Falinge, Rochdale – for 20 years and took the plunge to open his own shop at the end of last year.
He is hoping that in addition to some family secrets of how to succeed in the business, his emphasis on variety will give him an edge over competitors.
The store sells and fits a wide choice of materials, colours and designs, including a specialist lines, such as shagpiling and Seagrass.
Tony, who lives in Bamford, said: “I’ve always worked in carpets and had the intention of setting out on my own.
“It’s a bit daunting and I think it will take a while for business to pick up, particularly in the current climate, but I’m enjoying being independent from the other shop.
“I’m hoping that my business will be a success because I can cater for all price ranges and have a good deal of experience.
“From cheap and cheerful to the top range products, I think we can find what every customer wants.”
Tony was supported in setting up with advice from Heywood Business Support Project at TOPS Business Centre, which aims to help local people involved in business.
He said: “It’s great that they are there. They gave me advice in setting up and are always there if I need them.”
Earle Anthony is open Monday to Saturday and offers a full fitting service.
