Couple having a ball

GREEN TEAM: Sharon and David Wightman kitted out for woodland combat

A HEYWOOD couple enjoyed the fun and frolics so much when they had a go at paintballing, they did like Victor Kyam in the famous Remington shaver ads. They bought the company.

That was three years ago and, since then, David and Sharon Wightman from Chelmer Grove, Summit, have been hard at work building up their business.

Their adventure playground is 56 acres of mixed woodland and streams at Marton Village, three miles north of Congleton, Cheshire, which they lease from a private landowner.

David, 55, still has his own transport company and Sharon, 39, works as a self-employed accountant. But through sheer hard work and a lot of promotion through their website, the venture is attracting punters from all over the north west and Midlands.

Their company is called On The Edge Events and on Sunday, March 8, David and Sharon will be pulling out all the stops to raise funds for The Christie hospital with a charity paintballing day.

Sharon chose the charity because she has two friends coping with cancer in the care of The Christie.

She said: “David started paintballing in 1990, but it was quite a bit later when I first had a go.  But we both really enjoyed it and ended up marshalling for the company which used to run the site.

“So when the business was up for sale, we thought ‘Let’s give it a try’, and we bought it.”

The location of the wood can be checked out on the website, www.ontheedgeevents.com

Anyone who wants to take part in the Christie event should contact Sharon on 01706 360671 or 079473 47262.
