Old Glossop CC’s Derek Slack has been rewarded fopr his 50-plus years of service with a ‘lifetime achiever’ award from the Derbyshire Cricket Board.

He received the award during a special celebration evening held at Derbyshire Falcons’ Clydesdale Bank 40 match against Middlesex Panthers.

DCB management board member Dave Bull said: "Derek has been involved with Old Glossop Cricket Club for more than 50 years.

"This season sees Derek in his 50th year as secretary – a role that sees him involved in everything and anything.

"To say that Derek is an Old Glossop legend is an understatement.

"Apart from his role as secretary, he has also been treasurer, groundsman, done teas, run junior teams as well as having coached and supported many young cricketers coming through the ranks.

"For the past 25 years he has run the tote draw, every Sunday night without fail, helping to raise valuable funds for the club.

"Derek was also heavily involved in the work to bring a new pavilion to the club which was erected in 1993 and been in use since the start of the 1994 season.

"He also represents the club out in the wide community, which includes attending the Glossopdale Sport and Recreation Forum on their behalf."

Derek and all the other winners have now been invited to the national Outstanding Services to Cricket Awards (OSCAs) event at Lord’s on October 18.
