Warrington visited Hargate Hill with only two positions separating the two teams and Glossop having nicked the reverse fixture, winning 15-14.

Glossop director of rugby Don Pape was looking for more from his side in the return fixture, and he was rewarded with a solid performance, especially from his forwards with two fine push-over tries in the first half, both converted by Jake Gibson.

Tintwistle Villa manager, Billy Higginbottom, dedicated his side’s 4-0 away victory over Sheffield based Hunter’s Bar on Saturday to former defender Dave Hodgin who sadly passed away at just 34 years of age after collapsing on Boxing Day.

A minute’s silence held by referee Archie Anderson before the Hope Valley Premier League match was impeccably observed by both sets of players.

Goals from Daley Rothwell and Jay Gorton coupled with impressive performances from Jamie Dickinson and Kelvin Lugsden propelled North End to fourth place in the North West Counties Premier Division.

Glossop boss Paul Colgan could scarcely hide his delight after seeing the Hillmen emerge from their weather-enforced mid-winter break with a stunning 4-0 win at Ashton Athletic.

North End brushed aside fears they’d be rusty after nearly three weeks without a game as a Sam Hind hat-trick plus a contender for goal-of-the-season from Steve Heaton – a scorching 30-yard free kick – saw them romp to their first league victory for more than a month.

Glossop North End have taken another step towards promotion after beating Ashton Athletic 4-0 at a windy Brocstedes Park.

Sam Hind blew away the opposition with his match winning performance and his first-half hat-trick helped the Hillmen secure all three points.

Tintwistle Athletic’s reserves progressed to the semi-finals of the Derbyshire Junior Cup with an emphatic win over Whaley Bridge-based The Railway.

First-half goals from Liam Bailey, Ben Taylor (two each), James Coombers and Adam Worrall set Tintwistle on their way to a 9-1 win.

Proud Glossop boss Paul Colgan has hailed striker Sam Hind’s achievement in becoming the club’s second recipient this season of the North West Counties League Premier Division’s player-of-the-month award.

Homegrown product Hind’s typically all-action displays throughout December have landed him the prize won by team-mate Jay Gorton in October.

The Hillmen’s hopes of a flying start to 2012 were dashed as they sank to a defeat which saw them slip one place to fifth in the North West Counties League Premier Division.

Glossop boss Paul Colgan praised both his players and the Surrey Street groundstaff after the Hillmen saw off Barnoldswick in one of only two North West Counties League top flight games to go ahead last weekend.

Daley Rothwell and skipper Jay Gorton struck in quick succession midway through the second half to secure North End a thoroughly deserved 2-1 victory which takes them up to fourth place.

Glossop boss Paul Colgan saluted his resilient Hillmen after they twice came from behind to exact swift revenge for their FA Vase exit to Runcorn Town.

Runcorn had beaten Glossop 2-1 the previous week but two late goals gave them a stunning 3-2 triumph over their NWCL title foes at the Pavilions.
